5 Ways Environmentally Sustainable Digital Signage Can Improve an Organization’s Bottom Line

A new report from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded last week there is now no way to prevent global warming from intensifying over the next 30 years, though there is still a short window to prevent the most harrowing future. Discussions have been ongoing for decades on how industries can better meet sustainability goals and pro-AV is no exception. Digital signage has long been heralded as a solution for reducing waste and CO2 emissions.

1. Digital Signage Reduces Paper Waste: Between 2001 to 2019, a total of 386 million hectares (953826772.463 acres) of forest were lost globally (in all forest types combined). This loss represents an almost 10% decrease in tree cover since 2000. 42% of this went to paper production including static signage like posters and flyers. 

“Unlike static signage, sustainable digital signage can communicate messages to target audiences and turn heads with multimedia features and high brightness,” said Agarwal. “Externally, digital signage can increase sales, and internally, it can streamline business communication to increase employee productivity.” 

Not only does digital signage reduce deforestation but it saves water, as well. 50,000 litres (13208.603 gallons) of water is required to make 10,000 sheets of paper.

“Ultimately, sustainable digital signage is a greener, cleaner, and cheaper alternative to mass paper usage,” Agarwal said.

2. Decrease Power Usage and CO2 Emissions: In his piece, Agarwal reminds us of how TV screens have transformed from heavy, energy-guzzling boxes to slick, efficient models. In fact, he states, the development of modern flat screens reduced TV electricity consumption by 60%! A business can decrease its power usage and CO2 emissions by utilizing LED and LCD screens instead of static paper signage. 

“With consistently visible content situated in the right location, sustainable digital signage can capture your target audience and increase conversion rates while reducing CO2 emissions.”
